More Mission Pics August 2013

I'm designated at the "Tie Trades"contact for the Elders...

A bullet hole in this van?  We see this van in our area all the time!

The Las Vegas Temple and I were "born" in the same year!!

Holiness to the Lord. The House of the Lord.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Yep, I have an affinity to this particular temple.

Sister companions in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

"I Love to See the Temple"

Hello dear dear people.

I love the temple. I always get a little nervous just before I get there.... but everytime I feel peace. As Moroni 7 teaches, it persuades me to believe in Christ. So it is a fantastic thing and it is of God.

Nikki is praying about baptism on the 31st... which means we would have 2 baptisms that day.  But even if she doesn't, I know she'll be baptized soon. :)

Nikki will have her baptismal interview this weekend. it's happening! she's a sponge. i'm sure I've said that before. but it's true. she wants to show God her faith and it's such a pure and simple faith. She felt good about baptism so she's following through. it really can be that simple.

We're going to see Bruce tonight. He really likes shortbread, in case you didn't know. ;)

We're teaching a new investigator named Lachoya. I don't know her well enough to know what's motivating her to take the lessons.... but she wants to be baptized. It'll be interesting to see what unfolds in the next month.

Bishop has asked that some of the less active members we've been working with be handed off to ward missionaries. It honestly feels like I'm handing my baby over to someone that doesn't know anything about them. I know it's inspired, and I'll trust it. It's going to change the work that we do dramatically. we're going to have at least 5 more hours a week to focus on investigators.... that we don't have yet. If you have any ideas for finding people to teach, I would LOVE to hear them.

love,

It's Monday Already?

It's Monday already?
Just got word that my Aunt Dawna Cornelsen married her sweetheart Neal Ragonesi in the SLC Temple on August 10, 2013!! HOORAY FOR A NEW UNCLE!!!!! Neal, you've gotta keep your promise and send me some pictures. :)
Bruce is a new investigator of a part member family. He's the crazy uncle that everyone loves. :) they (he and his wife) read a lot, non fiction, fantasy, religious texts. it's really cool. at church he came up to me and said he was reading the book of Mormon. he said "man those two brothers and just mean". he's so funny. He knows a lot about world war 2 and she knows a lot about the civil war. it's so quirkily wonderful.
Sammie is doing well. She feels like she could explain to her parents why she needs to be baptized again and she's willing to move forward. the only set back now is the details of when. I want it to happen here so badly so I can see it but it may end up happening in Utah after she moves. maybe she's send me picture :)
Nikki is a sponge. she soaks it all up and just wants to be a good person. her parents are supportive because they know it's a good thing. it's great.
Jesse and Missy are still moving forward. They get so frustrated with themselves because it's not all perfect all in one day. We have to remind ourselves that it takes time. God doesn't ask for perfection right now, but he does ask for progression. he just wants to see us moving forward. and if we're moving forward, He'll take care of the rest.
We've been having FHE with the Babb's. They are doing so well! they're finding scriptures and trying to understand them. they're digging deeper than surface level. and they're enjoying being around each other. it's so good. Thanks for always having fhe with us. it's always meant a lot to me.
So it's really exciting when investigators come to church... and yesterday we had 5 of them come! I was seriously doing a little happy dance in church yesterday.
it's been a great week. :) I hope you're all doing well. write back soon!
Love,
Sister Cornelsen

Highs and Lows of a Mission

The Highs and Lows of a Mission - Author Unknown.

A mission is a strange experience It is a trial and a test.
A mission throws at you the worst Yet, teaches you the best.

I've never been so happy, I've never been so depressed.
I've never felt so forsaken, I've never felt so blessed.

I've never been so confused, things have never been so clear.
I've never felt my Heavenly Father so distant, yet He's never been so near.

I've never been so discouraged, I've never been so full of hope.
I feel I could go on for forever, I think I've come to the end of my rope.

I've never had it quite so easy, I've never had it quite so tough.
Things have never been so smooth, things have never been so rough.

I've never traveled through more valleys, I've never ascended more peaks
I've never met so many nice people. I've never met so many freaks!

I've never had so many ups, I've never had so many downs.
I've never worn so many smiles, I've never had so many frowns.

I've never been so lonely, I've never had so many friends.
BOY, I hope this is over soon, GOSH, I hope this never ends.

This is so true...

Wierdness Week

hola!

have you ever had a week that was just weird... but you can't quite put a finger on why? welcome to my week.

So here's a happy thing. We've been working with a less active sister in the ward. She's super awesome. very knowledgeable in the bible and just so quirky. it's great. Her husband isn't a member. But he has agreed to take the missionary lessons! It'll be interesting to see what happens. I can totally see him in white :) it's cool because when we tell people who know them, they are surprised. pleasantly surprised. :D

I've been studying the process of perfection recently. A different person we've been working with asked about it. but it seems it's me that needed it. It seems perfection means different things depending on your mortal state. We know we can be perfect in this life. the bible says Noah was perfect. But we also know there's something about resurrection that perfects us. So when we are resurrected we will be able to work on a kind of perfection that we haven't been able to with mortal bodies.

In the sermon on the mount, Christ says to be perfect like Heavenly Father is perfect. we wont have a glorified body now but in order to prepare for life with heavenly father, we need to achieve the kind of perfection we can attain while in this life. I was reading something from a manual that says the sermon on the mount is how to be perfect in this life. it's very cool stuff to study. it's opening my eyes again to the purpose of the gospel. and helping me to trust God to let Him change me into the person I need to be.

there's nothing quite like a mission that shows you your weaknesses... and nothing quite like a mission that helps you to rely on God to overcome them.

love you lots!
