Called to Serve

I have been called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Nevada Las Vegas West mission! I'll be teaching in English and I report to the Missionary Training Center (MTC) on June 6th.

Not gonna lie, I have mixed emotions. I am so excited to share what I believe and help bring people to know the same joy and love that I feel when I live the gospel. How could I not share it?

But I've been creating a life at BYU that I enjoy. There are friends and roommates that I am going to miss. I'd like to think that we'd write all the time. (The only form of consistent communication with full-time missionaries is by snail mail. With immediate family weekly emails are exchanged. On Mother's day and Christmas the missionary can call home to speak with family.)But I know that letters are hard to send. It may be easy to write, but it's hard to send.

Even with that conflict, I love Jesus Christ more than the life I've created. And if He wants me to serve a mission, by golly, that is what I will do. I want His will to be mine.

I'm learning that even if I want to do something else, following Heavenly Father's counsel always makes me happier than what I thought would. And for that reason, I'm keeping my heart and mind open.

The Lord in Doctrine and Covenants (a book of revealed scripture to the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr.) section 8 verse 2 says "Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart."
